About the course

In this program we focus on building an individual’s confidence in the office environment. The delegates will learn how to demonstrate knowledge in communication in the workplace and the basics on Imports and Exports. The individual will be trained on how to work in a team.

Module 4: Introduction to Imports & Exports

Discussing and explaining the terminology in the imports & exports environment. Looking at the concept of trade and where imports & exports fits into the picture. Understanding the different roles

Module 5: Global Trade & Geography

Understanding trade as part of the supply chain, trade blocs, trade areas, trade agreements and importance of trade. Geographical principles, time zones, cultures, economy, country codes and practical map work to understand routings and transits.

Module 6: Import / Export Cycle, Documentation and role players

Through a visual floor puzzle, looking at the imports & exports cycle in terms of start of the process, role players involved, documentation involved and where exports & imports integrate. Completing documents needed for basic shipments and understanding the purpose of these documents. 

Module7: Incoterms, Insurance & Basic Customs

Looking at cost, risk & control for the buyer and seller with regards to customs clearance, delivery obligations, VAT implications, mode of transport, importance of wording and where the freight forwarder fits in. Being able to identify pitfalls of insurance and assisting clients to follow the correct procedures. Understand the role of customs, processes followed when clearance are done and parties and calculations involved.

Module 8: Basic Calculations & Freight Invoicing

Basic calculations useful to the working environment are explained and charges related to the freight industry and services are explained. Discussing the importance of accurate invoicing. Also Focusing on different payment methods (cash in advance, open account, sight drafts, bills of exchange, documentary credit) and focusing on the process of a letter of credit. Understanding foreign exchange contracts and the different rates being bought and sold from the bank 

Module 9: Airfreight & Seafreight Essentials

Looking at ocean freight, air freight and road freight as modes of transport. Focusing on documentation, types of carriers, chargeable weight calculations, containerization, types of services and common charges of all modes. Looking at different containerization, specification of packing, packaging, marking and labeling. Basic overview of hazardous cargo classes, packing groups, UN numbers and documentation required

Module 10: Customer is King!

A module which defines customer service and how it can give your organisation competitive advantage.  Establishing how you know what service you are providing and the effect of a quality service on your bottom line.

Ideal candidate

Any individual that is newly employed within the working environment or any person outside the freight industry that needs a better understanding of the industry and the workplace.
